Hastings-Rye-Hastings (the classic)

Last week’s classic was won by Tom Hilder (43:46) with a PB by a massive 3 minutes 24 seconds, but one second short of Stuart Hodd’s time from one week earlier. The wind was probably a bit stronger with several times a fraction down so was Tom’s time effectively quicker than Stuart’s? Hopefully, both will ride this week to decide who picks up the H-R-H trophy for 2018.

Trevor Deeble (44.23) was second both weeks with another PB but this time by a larger margin of 36 seconds, the only rider to go quicker than last week. Could he go quicker still to beat Stuart and Tom’s times?

Malcolm Daly (49.05) was third. Gareth Purves (51.57) has improved each year from 2015, this year with a PB by 35 seconds after an excellent debut 50 mile TT a few days earlier.

Of the 12 riders that have competed over the classic course this year six have set PBs. With a warm evening expected this week, there is an opportunity for further improvements and some that have gone close should not miss the chance of a PB on a potentially quick evening!
